Lee Burrows

Lee Burrows is an experienced Investment Professional with a successful 20-year history in the venture capital and private equity industry. Mr. Burrows has a proven track record in Executive Management, Strategic Planning, Corporate Development, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Equity Financing, and Start-ups.

Mr. Burrows is currently a Founder and Managing Partner at Cyan Technology Capital, where he focuses on funding opportunities at the intersection of Water, Energy, and Mobility.

Prior to Cyan, Mr. Burrows was a Founder and Managing Director at NEXUS Infrastructure Capital Partners, where he focused on project finance opportunities in the Smart Grid, Smart Energy, and Energy Storage sectors. Simultaneously, Mr. Burrows also served on the Board of Directors of Rhombus Energy Solutions and the Advisory Board of COAST Autonomous Vehicles. At Rhombus, Mr. Burrows assisted Company management to identify projects (mostly in the energy storage and microgrid sectors) to drive sales velocity as well as driving the Company’s successful equity round fund raise. At COAST AV, Mr. Burrows advised management on numerous aspects of their business including fundraising strategy, customer agreements, target markets, and business model structure.

Prior to NEXUS, Mr. Burrows was with VantagePoint Capital Partners from 2002 to 2017. He was a Partner and Managing Director across three funds aggregating over $1.5 billion in capital. During his time with VantagePoint, Mr. Burrows was the lead investor of $277 million dollars across 12 companies in the Clean Technology, Consumer Electronics, Networking, and Semiconductor segments. Mr. Burrows actively participated in VantagePoint’s fund formation process for Fund V, CleanTech I and CleanTech II. In a portfolio company management role, Mr. Burrows worked closely with his companies by directing growth strategy and market expansion opportunities, identifying contract manufacturing partners and managing the outsourcing process, fundraising activities, senior management hiring, and their exit process. In addition to serving on the board of his portfolio companies, Mr. Burrows has held operating roles including interim CEO and President.

Early in his career, Mr. Burrows spent 10 years developing technology in the networking, communication, advanced materials and broad semiconductor spaces. During this time, he founded an optical component company that was subsequently acquired by New Focus, a leading photonics solutions provider. Mr. Burrows holds six patents in optical networking and device manufacturing. He earned his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science with honors from the California Institute of Technology and is a candidate for a PhD in Applied Physics.
